The face of a clown
Happy is the sight of smiling faces
to the circus clown.
In the sandy circus ring
you'll never see him frown.
He and his compadres
run around the sand
Chased by the Ringmaster,
don't worry - its all planned
And he'll suffer all the pratfalls
and make the audience laugh
before heading for the curtain
and to an early bath.
And then when audience has gone home
he'll feed elephants, before tea
and get circus tent ready for next show
that he'll perform for you and me.
But hiding behind the greasepaint
and smile that lasts all year
is the lonely fellow behind it
who wipes away a tear.
